Our experience has shown that most advisor's have significant angst with the "reinvention" of their practice. Don't blame them. Seems daunting. In doing so, it takes on a life of it's own and inspires the best in you.
It is if you see yourself as a trusted advisor and not a salesperson. Let's be clear, there is much good and nothing wrong with being a great salesperson. The problem with this however, is that you are always in competition with other "great salespeople" and have to work hard every year to generate business in a transactional manner. As a trusted advisor, you will develop an "advice based" practice where clients implement your recommendations knowing that you have their best interests and needs at the forefront of ever engagement. It is "their" plan that drives the service and product rendering rather than a "stand alone" purchase of a financial instrument based on an emotional response to "features" and "benefits".
